I Liked It, BUT…
Wednesday, 23rd February @ 7:00pm
$19 | Albany Entertainment Centre

A very silly look at very serious shows, I Liked It, BUT… transforms the theatre into a pub trivia night to find out what’s really going on in the art world.

This is Joel. Joel is a very serious, very important performance artist. Joel makes very important “works” about issues that you should definitely care about. Please please come and see Joel’s very important show.

No-one needs that. I Liked It, BUT… goes where few “experimental contemporary immersive performance” works dare to tread…out of the theatre and into the bar to see what passes the “pub test”.

Grab a drink and enjoy some tunes with Joel and local musicians for a Pub Trivia Night about the craziest, weirdest, most confusing stuff he’s ever had to see on and off of a stage. Expect very silly stories about very serious people, served with tongue firmly in cheek.

Together, we’ll try and work out how stuff even gets made, and why we should care.

Perth Festival’s Touring WA program is made possible through the support of Minderoo Foundation.

Alter Boy
Friday, 25th February @ 8:00pm
$30 (Adult) / $22 (Student) | Albany Entertainment Centre

Perth-based Auslan-embracing band Alter Boy is a six-person powerhouse of queerlectro pop, comprising three deaf/hard-of-hearing members championing inclusivity, accessibility, and empowerment.

Celebrated for transforming the traditional perception of pop, Alter Boy’s combination of chaotic live performances featuring transgender, disabled bodies and carefully considered, unique uniforms serve the band’s collective motivation to challenge the music industry’s status quo and influence a new relationship with music.

Alter Boy will be supported by local band The Morsels.

Presented by Albany Entertainment Centre.

Banding together within the Perth deaf community in 2019, Molly/Aaron (Vocals), Jack Meakins and Laura Bullock (Auslan Signers) drew inspiration to create a music project to rid misconceptions of their connection to music and promote inclusivity.

Channeling James Blake, Banks, and London Grammar, Alter Boy mastered their 2020 musical output: Bad Dream Break In, Glitter, and Section 504, and their signature lyrics conveying hope and purpose married with intricate melodies and whispered vocals extends to their new single, ‘Act of God’.

Referencing the unjust socio-political system operating under the guise of a punishing God or apparent misfortune, Act of God explores the internalisation of systematic issues for deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals.

Specifically, Act of God delves into the childhood experience of band member Jack who, like many other deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals, was unable to find his supportive community – where one can call home.
