Welcome to Country | Albany Pride Festival

Welcome to Country

Dates & Times:

Thursday, 20th February 2025 @ 5:30pm
Residency Museum

Come join us for a very special Welcome to Country to open our festival with our very own Menang Elder Aunty Vern Gillies.

Walk through our beginnings from the Nyitting (cold) time until now, and learn a small part of Menang history prior and post white settlement – how things began and where we are today.

The story in the residency museum talks about marginalisation and rejection, but also about the strength and resilience of our people.  It demonstrates that we can work together and overcome any obstacle.

These are common themes with our Queer community, so come listen to Aunty Vern for another wonderful hour of a truth telling walk through history.

Accessibility Information
Note about accessibility information: Albany Pride regularly undertake evaluations about accessibility information of our venues, and take them into account when choosing venues for events, but we cannot always guarantee the accuracy of information in the light of changes to the venue that fall outside of our control. We have provided accessibility for the venue in general, but these may also be different for the event itself (e.g. making gendered-toilets gender-neutral for the event), so please make sure you check both the venue and event accessibility information below.
