About

Albany Pride Festival is back for 2023, and it promises to be another spectacular year!

The theme for this year’s festival is “Let’s Get Visible” – and you can find out more about that here!

Pride Festival 2023 brings back old favourites like Drag Bingo, a big Pride Festival Party, parkrun, Drag Story Hour, Rock Climbing, and more – but also introduces a sports carnival, new talent to the Pride Festival, a Politics in the Pub event, rollerskating, and more shows at our long-term partners at the Albany Entertainment Centre.

We will also be observing International Women’s Day with some very special events, too.

Have a look at our preliminary lineup – there’s still more to come!

It’s always an absolute delight to welcome BarbieQ back to Albany, who amazes our audiences with her artistry, moves, sharp wit, and delightfully vulgar language!

Abbe May
×

Abbe May spent her late teens and early twenties performing in Australia’s most notorious rock venues and busted up studios, touring relentlessly in unreliable tour vans in various solo and band incarnations. With sly humour, Abbe graduated from her critically acclaimed early explorations of rock and blues to become a guitar-slinging, beat-driven, iconic performer with an atmospheric cocktail of sexy, indie riff-rock, gospel, soul, and electronica.

A champion of the LGBTQIA+ community, Abbe is a multi award-winning artist, having been nominated for over 40 ARIA, WAM, AIR, AMP awards and so far winning 27, she is one of the strong women of the Australian music industry with much respect across radio, blogs and venues around the country. Her impressive career as an independent, original artist boasts many highlights including touring extensively as the hand-picked guitarist for Peter Garrett’s Alter Egos. A constantly evolving artist, she has performed at myriad summer music festivals including Big Day Out, Meredith, and Pyramid, and supported Neneh Cherry, The Preatures, The Black Keys, Midnight Oil, The Motels, Art Vs Science, Tim Rogers, Adalita, Magic Dirt, Emiliana Torrini, Killing Heidi, You Am I,Peter Garrett, Bob Log III, Kim Salmon, Dave Graney and Claire Moore.

Abbe has had vast commercial success with albums ‘Design Desire’ in 2012, and ‘Kiss My Apocalypse’ in 2013. Associated singles Mammalian Locomotion, Taurus Chorus,Design Desire, Karmageddon, and T.R.O.U.B.L.E. were all added to high rotation on Triple J. Her Like A Version of Ginuwine’s Pony is widely considered a classic.

Several of her songs have been used in worldwide marketing campaigns for Jagermeisteras well as featuring as the closing scene song for the season in HBO’s Entourage and Jane Campion’s Top Of The Lake.

Her fifth studio album “FRUIT”, released in 2018, is her most succinct and powerful declaration of identity yet. A melodic, upbeat and soulful collection of songs made to honour the lives of those who are different, the album was honoured with a shortlisting in the 2019 Australian Music Prize and added to high rotation on Double J and RTRfm.
