Welcome to Country | Albany Pride Festival

Welcome to Country

Proudly presented by

Dates & Times:

Thursday, 22nd February 2024 @ 6:00pm
Albany Heritage Park

Join us for a Welcome to Country with local Menang Elder Vernice Gillies.

Come and join local Menang elder and long-time supporter of Albany Pride Vernice Gillies to welcome the festival starting at the National ANZAC Centre Albany. We will then invite guests to walk with us up to the top of the lookout and Vern will tell their story of the Stirlings, Porongurups and the Mammang Koort the open sea which is the heart (Koort) of the whale (Mammang).

This will be the first time Albany Pride Festival has had an official local Noongar welcome, so it will be a special event and one not to miss.

This event is FREE and we ask that attendees consider supporting the work of Vern and other local artists by visiting and purchasing some beautiful traditional Aboriginal art and craft from local Aboriginal owned and run store Kurrah Mia.

Note about accessibility information: Albany Pride regularly undertake evaluations about accessibility information of our venues, and take them into account when choosing venues for events, but we cannot always guarantee the accuracy of information in the light of changes to the venue that fall outside of our control. We have provided accessibility for the venue in general, but these may also be different for the event itself (e.g. making gendered-toilets gender-neutral for the event), so please make sure you check both the venue and event accessibility information below.
